How we cut the cost of a viewing hour

Engineering decisions with a measurable carbon consequence.

Edge-first delivery

Streams are served from the nearest edge node with per-title encoding ladders, cutting bytes shipped per viewing hour by roughly a third versus a fixed ladder.

Carbon-aware encoding

Transcode jobs are scheduled into low-carbon-intensity windows on the grid wherever the region publishes real-time intensity data.

Default-standard playback

Playback opens at the quality your connection can hold, not the highest the device can render. Higher tiers are always one tap away.

Low-data mode

A single household switch caps every profile at a data-light ladder. Meaningful in markets where mobile data is the main cost of watching.

BMT is pre-launch, so these are commitments rather than audited results. We will publish the first measured report with our first full year of streaming, and we will not claim a certification we have not earned.
